TREKKING IN THE DEEP HIMALAYAS ALONG THE GAURI GANGA

Day 1: ARRIVE DELHI
Half-day city tour.
Day 2: DELHI – PANGOT – BY SURFACE / 325 KMS / APPROX 6 – 7 HRS
Drive to Pangot, an island of tranquility, which is 15 km from Nainital. Pangot is a small village with the customary post office, a chai-shop-cum-general merchant, a tailor and a temple. Afternoon free to relax or opt for some jungle walks.
Day 3: IN PANGOT – TREK / 10 KM / APPROX 5 HOURS
One of the popular treks from Pangot is to Naina Peak via Kilbury Forest Rest House. The long trail leading up to the Naina Peak, (2,610 M / 8,613 FT), offers views of the Garhwal Himalayas, including Nanda Devi.
Day 4: PANGOT – ABBOTT MOUNT (2,121 M / 7000 FT) – BY SURFACE / 170 KM / 6 HOURS
Drive through Nainital to Abbott Mount, & get the first experience of the countryside in the Kumaon Himalayas.
Day 5: ABBOTT MOUNT – MUNSYARI (2290 M / 7,557 FT) – BY SURFACE / 200 KM / 8 HOURS
Continue drive to your trekking destination at Munsyari via Pithoragarh. The journey past Pithoragarh and Thal to Munsyari is almost unique in the countryside that is crossed.
Day 6: AROUND MUNSYARI
There are interesting day treks to Balati Farm at a height of 9,000 ft, which offers breath taking panoramic views of the snow peaks, or to Thamri Kund, another lake hidden amongst rhododendron forests. A drive through Madkot, Chori Bagar, Bangapani to Jouljibi and back entails a day’s travel through absolutely picturesque locations along the banks of the Gori Ganga.
Day 7: MUNSYARI – DUMAR – BY SURFACE / 6 KM – RARGARI -TREK / 10 KM / APPROX 5 HRS
Short drive to Dumar and then the trek begins along Gauri Ganga begins, which is ones close companion for the next few days. The destination is past Lilam village, an area inhabited with Bhutia tribes, to Rargari.
Day 8: RARGARI – MAPANG – TREK / 9 KM / APPROX 5 HRS
Strenuous walk ascending to the roar of the Gauri Ganga. Ascending through galleries into woodland and also through spectacular water carved gorge. The route generally eases off before reaching Mapang.
Day 9: MAPANG – RAILKOT (3130 M / 10,329 FT) – TREK / APPROX 6 – 7 HRS
Trek climbs up…on a well-built trail to the clearing of shepherd camps, with stunning high crags all around. The pace gets slower on gaining altitude. After this there is some gentle contouring on mountain trails, and then see the hilltop fort of Railkot silhouetted against the peaks.
Day 10: RAILKOT – BUGDIAR (2609 M / 8,609 FT) – TREK / 14 KM / APPROX 7 – 8 HRS
From Railkot begin return journey trekking straight down to Bugdyar. This is a steady walk and mostly downhill past the villages of Lhaspa, Mapang and the narrow gorge at Nahar Devi.
Day 11: BUGDIAR – MUNSYARI – TREK / 16 KM / APPROX 8 HRS
Continue walk downhill all throughout and Munsyari will be reached by late afternoon.
Day 12: MUNSYARI – BINSAR (2412 M / 7,960 FT) – BY SURFACE 230 KM / APPROX 8½ HOURS
Drive to Binsar en-route stop at Bageshwar and the famous Baighnath Temple.
Day 13: BINSAR – JAGESHWAR – 3 KM HIKE FROM JAGESHWAR TO VRIDDHAR JAGESWAR – CORBETT NATIONAL PARK – BY SURFACE / 203 KM / APPROX 5 ½ HOURS
Drive to Jageshwar famous for the 124 ornamented temples & hundreds of statues built by the Chand Rajas. A 3 km trek from Jageshwar leads to Vriddha Jageshwar. After visiting the temple complex drive to Corbett National Park in the afternoon.
Day 14: IN CORBETT NATIONAL PARK
Game viewing safaris.
Day 15: CORBETT NATIONAL PARK – DELHI – BY SURFACE / 290 KM / APPROX 5 ½ HRS
Enjoy a morning elephant ride through the open chaurs (grasslands) and dense forests. After breakfast drive back to Delhi. Arrive Delhi by the evening and transferred to the International Airport to board your flight for onward journey / home.
